Although I had been sewing since I was thirteen years old and had sewn everything from jeans and coats to curtains, I did not begin sewing for skaters until I took up skating myself. In 1989 I made my first outfit for a competitive artistic rollerskater and I have been sewing for skaters ever since. Some of the outfits which I have made are pictured here. With the exception of the purple one which was made with 4 way stretch velvet, all the others were made with spandex fabric. Although all of the spandex fabric used was a solid color, printed spandex fabric could be used for a different effect. We have many colors of spandex fabric as well as printed spandex fabric in stock and ready to ship.
Before Fabrics in Motion began, when I needed a pattern or fabric, I usually contacted Trudi and Wen Fitch of Action-Wear Fabrics in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts because they always had the best prices combined with high quality goods. When Wen Fitch died in the summer of 2003, Trudi suggested I take over their fabric business. When I asked her how much fabric she had and if it would fit in the back of my car, she asked, “how big is your car.” With that in mind, my daughter and I rented a van, removed the backseats, and drove to Trudi’s home in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. We returned home with the van filled to the roof with fabric. Thus began Fabrics in Motion. Right away I vowed that I would continue Action-Wear Fabrics’ tradition of low prices and quality goods and to this day I have.
